BRE Digest 365 Soakaway Design
Soakaways have traditionally been used in rural areas to dispose of stormwater from buildings and paved areas when public sewers or watercourses are absent. In recent years, they have also been increasingly seen as a viable option in fully sewered urban areas. According to the BRE Digest 365, 'Soakaways must store the immediate stormwater run-off and allow for its efficient infiltration' to be effective.

Hydrec Environmental Consulting have a proven track record in gaining planning permission for our soakaway design.

All soakaway designs will be prepared in accordance with the methodology outlined in the BRE Digest 365. This takes account of the specification of the percolation test hole(s), calculating design rainfall rates, determining soil infiltration rates and specifying the final soakaway design and location.

As soakaways must 'discharge their stored water sufficiently quickly to provide the necessary capacity to receive runoff from a subsequent storm' , all of our soakaways will be designed to ensure that they will discharge from full to half-volume within 24 hours.
